Radio

It's kind of difficult to take a researcher into Internet culture seriously when he can't even pronounce "internet" correctly. Also,he seems to be totally unaware that what he thinks is new has been around for at least twenty years.

Hmm. I'm aware of two pronunciations of "Internet" in Swedish (am guessing this is Swedish radio) and wouldn't say that either of them is incorrect - though the one that's stressed on the last syllable is more natural in compounds (such as Internetanvändare) Are you by any chance referring to the Messenger Generation researcher, or have there been other Net Culture people on the radio recently?

Yes, it was him. I was listening to the Vetenskapsradion podcast on my way to work. And yes, there are two pronunciations of "internet" in use. The one that stresses "net" is a late construction by people who knew nothing of the history and little of the reality of the net, and in my experience it serves as a pretty reliable indicator of a lack of such knowledge. Which is probably why I find it very hard to take a researcher into net stuff who uses it seriously.

OK. I don't agree, though.

I agree completely, that's my experience too.
